Niagaraescarpment_2Even though this site hasn't seen many updates recently, my passion for wine hasn't diminished. I've learned that a home is a lot of work, and a home with 10 acres of land is a hell of a lot of work. In my spare time though I've been getting to know that the Niagara Escarpment area with fresh eyes and an open mind. There's so much to tell you about up here I could never put it in this blog. That's why I created NiagaraEscarpment.net. It's essential reading for anyone coming to the Niagara Falls area that appreciates wine, agriculture, and natural beauty.

Update on last post

I found this link the day after my last post on Pinot Noir on the Niagara Escarpment, USA. Business must be booming for Warm Lake Estate to be expanding its plantings by 50%.

New York State Wine Harvest Update

Word is that it is a good harvest at New York State Vineyards this fall. This article mentions that the Finger Lakes Riesling and Cabernet Franc crops are superb.

New Scientist, my favorite science news source, released a fascinating article today about how cheese affects the taste buds. It claims that cheese actually hides subtle flavors that mark out a good wine. Is that why free wine at wine and cheese events like art openings is always so drinkable?

Iron and Wine

Since I couldn't resist the obvious connection between the band "Iron and Wine" and my blog, here's a link to a short news blurb about the band's tour dates. If you are not familiar with their music, you may have heard them on a new M&M's commercial. The music is accoustic, lo-fi, and has an innate warmth that makes their music soothing. Iron and Wine is singer songwriter Sam Beam using only a guitar and banjo.
